By 1953 it had become one of the nation's leading institutions of higher learning, and thus was rennamed The Pennsylvania State University. Since 1892 PSU has been an international leader and pioneer in the field of distance learning, and today more than 20,000 individuals begin or conitnue their education through PSU's off-campus programs.
